Continue reading →]]> The 2011 Stableford event at Oswego Country Club provided plenty of fun and excitement on Saturday, October 15.  Joe Babcock and Tom Roman won the Championship Flight with a 2-man best ball score of 24 in the modified Stableford point format.  The First Flight Championship was shared by the team of Ray Chance and Tom Van Schaack and the team of Alan Rainbow and Steve Buffum, with a score of 18.

In the Stableford scoring system, five points are awarded for an eagle, three for a birdie, one for a par, zero points for a bogey and -1 for a double bogey or worse.  The  Championship flight consisted of two-man teams with a combined handicap of less than 20; the First Flight were teams with a combined handicap of 20 or more.

Jim Gorman and Kevin Vandenberg placed second in the Championship Flight with a score of 23.  Tied for third place with a score of 22 were the teams of Chris  Carpenter/Zack Farden and Brad Myatt/John Zamparetti.  In the First Flight, Jack Connors and Tony DiMartino captured third place, while the teams of Jack Blum/Bill Dawson and Steve Doss/Rich Roehm shared 4th place.

The Oswego Country Club’s annual Stableford Tournament will be held on Saturday, October 15. The 2-man Best-Ball event will feature two flights, the Championship Flight (blue tees) for teams with a combined handicap of less than 20, and the First Flight (white tees) for teams with a combined handicap of 20 or more. Tee times will be from 10 AM to 1 PM and the field is limited to the first 38 teams to apply. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, October 12.

The entry fee is $80 per team and includes a meal after the event. Carts must be purchased separately. Forty (40%) of each flight will win pro-shop credit and there is an optional skins and sweeps game that is not included in the entry fee.

The event will be based on the Stableford point scoring system: Eagles = 5 points, Birdies = 3, Par = 1, bogey = 0, Double Bogey or worse = -1.

Times and pairings will be listed in either the Thursday or Friday editions of the Palladium-Times or the Syracuse Post Standard.

Continue reading →]]> The 2011 Adult-Child event at Oswego Country Club drew 18 teams for the modified alternate shot formatted 9-hole event on Saturday, September 17.  Chris and Sean Dain recorded a 35 to capture the third flight championship, three shots clear of Paul and Alec Kunzwiler.  Jaime and Bruce Hourigan and Tom and Jameson Simmonds each shot 44 in the second flight with the Hourigan pair winning the tie-breaker.  Tom and Neil Roman shot a 50 to win the first flight championship.

Nathan Allen won the long drive contest for 5-9 year olds; Bryce Hourigan won the 10-13 year old long drive contest; and Alec Kunzwiler took the 13+ age long drive contest.  Sean Dain was the winner of the longest putt made on hole #1 with a 22’ putt.

VandenBerg shot a two day total of 141 (1 under) to capture the Championship Flight. Moore shot 72-72 (144) to finish one stroke ahead of Oswego’s Tom Roman who shot 77-68. Roman finished one stroke ahead of Oswego’s Joe Babcock (74-72, 146). VandenBerg began the second round five shots out of the lead held by Phil Tripoli, who fired an opening round 70 to lead by two strokes over Moore after Day 1.

 

Joe Oddo (82-79, 161) won the First Flight championship by two strokes over Joel Robinson and Marc Ciappa. David Lamirand (Timber Banks) improved his second round by 17 shots, firing a second round 70 after posting a first round 87 to win the Second Flight championship by 5 shots.

place Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11 with 10 AM-1:30 PM tee
times.  The 36-hole event is a medal play format with skins and sweeps games each day. 
The field is limited to the first 66 entries and is open to all golfers; you need not be an OCC Member to participate.

Labatt Invitational Information and Registration Form

The field will be flighted after day one and based on a full field, the top 15 and ties will comprise the Championship Flight.  Approximately 50% of the field will receive pro-shop credit and the entry fee of $75 includes a steak dinner after the first round; carts, skins and sweeps are available at an additional cost.  Entries are due by September 7.  For more information, contact the OCC Pro Shop at 315-343-1941.

The 34th annual event at OCC has seen it’s share of great champions, including the inaugural champion Jim Roy; 4-time champs Jim Oddo and Kevin Dewey; Neil Reidy who won the event three years in a row (2000-2002) and defending champ Kevin Vandenberg.
