Kevin Vandenberg wins OCC Invitational
The 43rd Annual OCC Invitational was held on Saturday and Sunday, June 1st and 2nd at the course. The format of the Tournament was medal play with the field being flighted after Day 1 of play. Saturday was a beautiful day for golf (which has been very few and far between) while Sunday was a more normal day with intermittent rain and gusty winds.
At the end of Day 1, Kevin Vandenberg of Tuscarora Golf Club was the leader with an even par 71. He was followed closely by OCC's Greg Lavery, Brad Monroe and Mike Mento with rounds of 72. Sunday morning dawned with gloomy rainy weather but improved throughout the day. With soft holding greens, Vandenberg shot a 3 under par 68 to run away from the field by 5 strokes. The First Flight was won by Matt Lloyd with 78-75-153 and Geoff Pipper took the Second Flight with a score of 86-82-168.
The Tournament was co-chaired by Chad Holbert and Mike Palmitesso Jr. Ryne Varney, Mike Hogan and their staff did a stellar job helping to run the tournament and Scott Peters, Neal Pitcher and the Green crew did their usual magic making the course extremely playable after a long period of not so nice weather.
