Oswego Country Club's Head PGA Professional Michelle Murphy recently finished second in the Golf Max/Central New York Open held at the Country Club of Ithaca. Cazenovia Golf Club professional Dennis Colligan carded back-to-back rounds of 72 Monday en route to winning the event. Murphy (73-72-145) finished one shot back.
Colligan finished the 36-hole event with an even-par 144 total to win his second CNY Open title. He also won in 2010. Colligan won $1,500 for first.
The CNY Open, which is open to amateurs, is the first major of the season on the Central New York PGA schedule.
Joe Norman (Elmira Country Club) and Mark Tucker (Cazenovia Country Club) finished tied for third at 146.
Former champion John Clare was the top finishing amateur with a 4-over 148. Clare (Bellevue CC) placed sixth overall. He won the event in 2015. Clare is headed to Florida where he'll end his college career with the Le Moyne College men's golf team at the NCAA Championship on May 22-26 at Reunion Resort's Watson Course in Kissimmee.
Defending champion Kevin VandenBerg finished tied for 28th at 17-over 161.
