The Oswego Country Club Board of Directors announced today that the Club has hired Ryne Varney as their new PGA Head Golf Professional.
Varney, 32, is a graduate of Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizen and Public Affairs. Most recently Varney was the Head Golf Professional at Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club in New Durham, New Durham, New Hampshire.
“We are very excited to welcome Ryne to the Oswego CC and look forward to developing our Golf Programs with Ryne as our new head golf professional,” said Tom Van Schaack, President of Oswego CC.
Varney has many years of experience in the golf industry, including stints as a professional at Naples (Maine) Golf and Country Club, Ravinia Green Country Club in Riverwoods, Illinois and at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire.
He and his wife Kit, who is a native of Syracuse, are thrilled to be moving to Central New York. “Kit and I are looking forward to this new endeavor,” Varney said. “We are eager to get started and being a part of the great tradition and history at Oswego Country Club.”
Varney earned the elite status of “Certified Professional” from the PGA of America for his work in Golf Operations. He is a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor from the Titleist Performance Institute, and is a US Kids Golf Certified Coach.
Varney becomes just the fifth head golf professional at Oswego CC since 1950. He will follow in the footsteps of John Lisk (1950-84), Paul Zurek (1985-94), Jon Fowler (1995-2015) and Michelle Murphy (2016-17).
Oswego Country Club opened in 1897. The main clubhouse was recently renovated and now features a new dining room facility a renovated outdoor patio area and welcoming fire pit. In addition, the Oswego CC swimming pool area has new changing rooms. This spring, the final phase will be completed with a new-look men’s and women’s locker room.
