Ryne W. Varney, PGA, CGFI
Head Golf Professional
In 2018, Oswego Country Club welcomes Ryne Varney as it's fifth Head Golf Professional since 1950.
Ryne is a PGA Certified Professional in Golf Operations and has over seventeen years of experience in the golf industry. He began his golf career at the Naples (Maine) Golf and Country Club in 2002. In 2008, he moved on to Ravinia Green Country Club in Riverwoods, Illinois just outside of Chicago as First Assistant Golf Professional. From 2011-14 he served as First Assistant at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire before moving on to Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club as the Head Golf Professional in 2015.
Ryne also carries a Certified Golf Fitness Instructor designation from the Titleist Performance Institute, is a US Kids Golf Certified Coach, and holds fitting certifications with all major golf manufacturers.
Having been the lead merchandiser for his past employers, Ryne’s merchandising expertise will provide both Members and Guests of the Oswego Country Club with a great selection of apparel and equipment for purchase.
Although he is originally from New England, Ryne has strong ties to Central New York. He attended Syracuse University, where he served as President of the Golf Club and as Captain of the golf team. At SU, Ryne met his wife Kit, who grew up in the area. They are happy to return to the region that means so much to them.
All of these experiences have taught Ryne one thing: golf needs to be simpler. Whether you are an amateur who is picking up a club for the first time, or a seasoned professional who is looking to gain your stroke back, playing the game needs to be less complicated to enjoy. His instruction method looks to fix the underlying cause of the problems with your game, while teaching you the easiest way to achieve your goals on the golf course. It’s his responsibility to determine your true swing, give you the physical tools to utilize it, and create a practice plan that you can follow. It’s your responsibility to get to the golf course. Doesn’t that sound much easier than what you have been doing? Call the Golf Shop (315-343-1941 ex. 1) or email him at to let him improve your game.
